Project Management
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation
I organised and oversaw the implementation of a brand-new ERP solution, SAP Business ONE. This was a multi-faceted process, with me being directly responsible for the following:
- Project scoping and tendering
- Project budgeting and ensuring our implementation partners were accountable on all KPI’s agreed upon
- Managing the organising and cleaning of the existing database of over 10,000 customers and 6,000 SKU’s to ensure a seamless transfer
- Ensuring all existing customized company reports were replicated to work with the new system
- Taking the opportunity to devise a new backend code system for all customers and stock items
- Educating the staff on the benefits of the change to ensure buy-in and compliance and supervising staff training to minimize any possible disruption after the changeover
- Managing the crucial 24-hour period of the actual changeover
- Liaising with our implementation partners in the weeks after the changeover to minimize any disruptions caused by the new system
The implementation was a resounding success, resulting in a vastly improved ERP solution with improvements across the business from customer management to stock control. The business was then ideally placed to move to a new eCommerce platform.
eCommerce implementation
I led the creation and implementation of a new company website, completely integrated with the new ERP solution and online payment gateway & merchant facility. I was directly responsible for the following:
- Project scoping and tendering
- Working with our Graphic Designer to design the look of the website
- Working with our developer partners on all aspects of the suite build
- Ensuring a seamless integration between our new website and our recently launched ERP system
- Managing the integration with our new online merchant facilities
- Ensuring the new site conformed to all SEO best practices and we maintained or improved our existing Page Rank with Google
- Making sure all redirects were created for existing url’s, to ensure we didn’t have 404 errors from any backlinks from the greater web
- Managing the final domain changeover between our old and new websites
The new website proved to be a major improvement on the old site, with the tight integration between the web and our ERP system bringing a host of increased efficiencies for the business.
Improved Company Reporting
I planned a suite of new company reports to provide enhanced stock visibility, reorder efficiency & improved sales analysis. I then worked closely with a Crystal Report developer to build the reports I had envisaged. These reports were integral to the business moving forward and enabled better decision making by me as the General Manager and by the Company Director, as we had much better visibility of stock and sales patterns within the company.
Warehouse Management System implementation
I designed, built and implemented a digital warehouse management system that enabled increased visibility of all orders within the pick/pack process in the warehouse. This enabled the director or myself to monitor the status of all orders within the warehouse even when we were away from our main office. The new system also ensured better traceability after orders were shipped.
Head Office/Warehouse relocation
I helped plan and organize the moving of the entire business to new and improved premises. I also designed the new warehouse layout and determined the location of all stock based off reporting indicating what stock items were picked most frequently. This ensured that our warehouse staff could move around the warehouse picking and packing orders in the most efficient way possible.
Internet Marketing
I led the implementation of a new integrated electronic direct mail (EDM) system. This new system allowed precise targeting of our customer database. This made it possible for me to send EDM campaigns to customers based on previous purchase history and any personal subject interest they had registered by filling out customer surveys.
Using the new EDM system, I drove a 300% increase in the number of web orders for the business in the first 6 months of operation of the new website.
